I hope you all are doing well.  Today's post is about my staple skin care pieces.  Now, there may be some key pieces missing but that's because I flit between a few different products for certain areas.  I hope this will help you if you are having trouble picking skin care products.

Morning Skin Care Routine

I figured it was time to do a skincare post, so it's best to start with what I do in the morning, right?  Now, I do not claim to have the best skin, but I do take care of it.  First, I cleanse my face with the Clearasil Rapid Action Daily Face Wash.  I don't know about the claims of it clearing things in twelve hours but it does make my face feel clean but not dried out.  Then, in the morning, I tone my face with an Oxy Daily Defense cleansing pad.  I know that this isn't actually a toner or astringent, but I feel it gives me the extra protection against the day's dirt and grime. For my base moisturizer, I have two choices- The Simple moisturizing protecting lotion and the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion (DDML).  When it's winter, I go for the DDML because it's heavier and really helps with harsh winter winds in Missouri but any other time of the year, I use the Simple skin moisturizer.  This is really nice and light, not oily at all.  It is made for sensitive skin, which I don't necessarily have, but sometimes my skin can be a bit finnicky and this is always a safe bet when putting it on.  I put on a base moisturizer because a BB Cream or tinted moisturizer doesn't necessarily have enough moisturizing power to last me all day.  On top of the base moisturizer, I put on my BB Cream and for this I use the Garnier Skin Renew BB Cream in Light/ Medium.  I find that the coverage of this is really nice, and makes a really good base for my makeup.  It covers up some smaller imperfections and makes the larger ones not as noticeable.  This is by far my favorite BB Cream but I've been wanting to try the Revlon Photo Ready BB Cream, would you suggest that one or is there another BB or CC cream that you like better? FOTD: Short and Sweet

For my makeup the other day, I wanted something sweet but with a sweet edge.  I used my Urban Decay Glinda palette to create a pink/purple smokey eye for the day time.  My base, as always, was the Revlon Photo Ready liquid foundation in Ivory.  I then used Urban Decay's blush in "Quckie", which I've had forever and I've just rediscovered my love for it.  It was actually my first high end makeup purchase, I was so proud when I bought it- I was 15 and I felt so grown up.  Here is the look:

 For my eye, I only used colors from the Glinda palette.  The base color for all over my lid was Illusion, which is a light beige gold with a soft shimmer. I then took Magic, which is a duochrome pink/purple color, and used it on the middle of my eye to the outer corner of my lid, blending towards the crease.  I then took Tornado, a purple shimmer color, and blended it on the outward corner of my eye and created a bit of a winged effect.  I lined my lower lash line with my NYX Kohl black liner, and for my mascara I used the three in one mascara by Flower by Drew Barrymore.  This is a great product and I suggest stopping by Walmart, if you have them, and picking up a few of their products.

 For my lips, I used Revlon's new Colorburst Lacquer Balm in Vivacious, which is number 120.  Unlike the Kissable Balm Stains, these have a glossier finish.  This isn't a stain, so it doesn't last forever, but it did last through eating and drinking and general wear and tear for about 5 hours before I really had to reapply it.  I am really in love with Revlon's new Lacquer and Matte balms that they've come out with.  Then again, I just love the chubby stick packaging.

How to: No Heat Curls

Here we have another simple trick to make your hair look nice without you having to fry it with a flat iron (guilty) or a curling iron.  I first found this trick on pinterest last year and have been doing it ever since if I want to have curly hair without all of the muss and fuss.

All you have to do is put a sweat band around your head, so it looks like it could be a really bad fashion statement, and then you take a section of hair and loop it around the band once.  Then you add a little bit more hair to that firs section and wrap it again.  You keep doing this until all of your hair is wrapped around your head on this sweat band.  You should do this when your hair is still slightly damp but not completely soaked, nor totally dry.  If it's totally wet, your hair will never dry then you just have a damp mess on your hands and if you do it when it's completely dry the hair will not stay on the band.  Each person's hair is different though, so I suggest trying a few different versions of dampness to see what works best for you.  This is what the finished product should look like:

The curls that come out of this are pretty messy, so it's a good style to do half up half down in my opinion.  It does give your hair a good amount of volume as well, especially if you use a volumizing mouse.  I hope you enjoyed this how to :) XOXO

Welcome to Gilligan's Island!

The other day, Dawn Wells came to Stephens to film part of the 50th anniversary documentary for Gilligan's Island.  She played Mary Ann on the tv show, but she is also a Stephens woman who was a part of our theatre department.  Before she started filming the first few interviews with the three people who volunteered first she was just chatting with us, and SHE COMMENTED ME ON MY EYE SHADOW AND MAKEUP!

I did very simple base makeup, so I won't go into that. Even though my eye shadow isn't as bright and colorful as usual but it still used some colors that I had never tried before.  I used a peach color all over my lid that had just the slightest hint of sparkle in it and then for the outer corners, half the way across the crease, and right up against my top lashes until half way I used a coppery color.  It wasn't as coppery as copper pots and pans, but it is in the copper family.  Plus, it's FINALLY becoming spring/ summer and I thought these colors really helped to wrap those two seasons into one.  The eye shadows I used were from the BH Cosmetics 120 Color Palette 3rd Edition.  I tried to keep my eyes simple, but still with a pop, and to look professional because in this business- Appearance is one quarter of landing a job, two quarters is your connections, and then one quarter is your talent.  The theatre majors who went to this event looked nice and professional, so as to be taken seriously.

My Three Product Face!!

I know, I know, where has the time gone? I haven't posted since Sunday but I've been really busy this week; the show that I'm sound designing finally opens tonight and there was that little issue of me being in the ER until 3AM Tuesday morning because I had hit my head pretty hard during tech and people wanted to get it checked out.  I'm better now, sort of anyway, and so here's a post to start your weekend off with- My three product face! I'm not much for wearing makeup during the day because mainly I'm lazy and it's been cold but today it was really warm and sunny so after my classes ended at noon I ran back to my room and changed into a tank top and threw a few things on my face!

First, I put on my Dr. Jart+ Black Label Detox BB Cream which I love dearly but because of how much it costs, I'm trying to make my sample last as long as possible.  It gives a nice coverage and is really light weight which is why I put it on today.  Just the right amount of coverage with a slight dewy finish.
Then I did two swipses of my Rimmel Scandaleyes Curve Alert mascara on my top lashes.  This gave them a nice fluttery look without looking heavy or fake.
My favorite thing about this look is that the biggest thing is your lips.  Since there is no other real color on your face, you can go with a really bright and vibrant color and not worry about it clashing with any of your other makeup.  I used the Rimmel Stay Glossy lip gloss in number 360 Fuschia Fever.  It's called fuschia, and this picture doesn't help my case, but on my lips it is more of a bright pink color and has great staying power.  I lick my lips a lot so it probably doesn't last as long as it would on someone else with better habits but on me it lasts a good three or four hours before I have to touch it up.  I just LOVE this lip gloss :)
